A charming antique bar brooch in 9ct yellow gold, hallmarked Birmingham 1901, centred on a swallow in flight with wings and body set with alternating turquoise and seed pearls. The swallow was one of the most beloved motifs in Edwardian sentimental jewellery — a symbol of good luck, safe return, and fidelity — and this example captures the form with pleasing naturalism, the alternating blue and cream stones giving the bird a lively, decorative quality. Gold ball cluster terminals anchor each end of the bar, adding a satisfying weight to the composition.
The brooch carries full Birmingham hallmarks and the front is in good condition throughout. The reverse shows some untidiness to the metalwork, as is not uncommon in pieces of this age and type, and does not affect the wearing quality of the piece. A sweet and symbolically rich antique brooch with strong collector appeal.
