Antique 9ct Gold Turquoise and Pearl Swallow Bar Brooch, Birmingham 1901

A charming antique bar brooch in 9ct yellow gold, hallmarked Birmingham 1901, centred on a swallow in flight with wings and body set with alternating turquoise and seed pearls. The swallow was one of the most beloved motifs in Edwardian sentimental jewellery — a symbol of good luck, safe return, and fidelity — and this example captures the form with pleasing naturalism, the alternating blue and cream stones giving the bird a lively, decorative quality.
