A refined and unusual antique curb chain necklace in alternating sections of 18ct yellow gold and platinum, dating to around 1900. The two-colour effect — warm gold playing against the cool grey of platinum — is subtle at a distance and increasingly striking up close, the result of a construction that was technically demanding for its period and remains visually distinctive today. At 2.7mm wide, the chain sits close and neat against the neck without bulk.
The necklace fastens with its original yellow gold spring ring clasp and measures 17 inches in length. Platinum was not subject to hallmarking requirements at this date, and the chain carries no marks, which is entirely period-consistent. Condition is excellent throughout. A genuinely rare piece of Edwardian goldsmithing that wears beautifully as an everyday chain or as a layering piece.
