A beautifully preserved antique solitaire ring in 18ct yellow gold, dating to around 1900, set with a 0.28 carat old mine cut diamond of H colour in a classic claw collet. The old mine cut — the Victorian precursor to the modern brilliant — has a distinctive cushion outline and a deeper pavilion than its contemporary equivalents, producing a warmer, more romantic quality of light that is increasingly prized by collectors and wearers who want something with genuine period character. This is a particularly clean and well-proportioned example of the type.
The diamond sits in a simple claw collet on a plain polished yellow gold shank, stamped 18ct, in a design that lets the stone speak entirely for itself. Ring size is P and condition is very good throughout. A timeless antique engagement or dress ring with the quiet confidence of a piece made to last.
