A beautifully detailed late Victorian crescent brooch in 9ct mixed yellow and rose gold, hallmarked Birmingham 1892, with chased foliate decoration running along the body of the crescent and a central shield cartouche bearing an engraved floral motif. The interplay of yellow and rose gold gives the piece a warmth and depth that plain yellow gold cannot match, and the quality of the chasing — fine, confident, and well-preserved — speaks to the skill of Birmingham's goldsmithing trade at its Victorian peak. Small gold ball terminals finish the tips of the crescent with characteristic period neatness.
The brooch carries full Birmingham hallmarks and is in good condition. Crescent brooches were enormously popular throughout the Victorian era, worn as symbols of good luck and feminine elegance, and examples with this level of decorative detail are increasingly sought after.
