A beautifully made antique bar brooch in 9ct rose gold, hallmarked Birmingham 1901, featuring twin bamboo-effect bars bound at the centre by a small horseshoe motif. The bamboo detailing is crisply rendered — the segmented joints clearly defined along both bars — and the horseshoe sits neatly at the intersection, giving the piece a focused composition that is both decorative and emblematic. Equestrian motifs of this kind were enormously popular in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, worn as much for their associations with good luck as for their aesthetic appeal.
The brooch carries full Birmingham hallmarks and is in excellent condition throughout. At 45mm it has good presence without being oversized, and the warm rose gold tone gives it a softness characteristic of the period. A charming and collectible antique brooch with strong equestrian appeal.
