A substantial and decoratively rich antique silver brooch dating to around 1900, with a scalloped oval form and densely engraved surface featuring a central basket of flowers framed by scrollwork, flanked by geometric hatched panels at either side. The composition is confident and well-balanced — the naturalistic basket motif at the centre contrasting pleasingly with the more formal geometric borders — and the quality of the engraving is strong throughout. At 6.4 grams the brooch has good weight and presence for its size.
The piece carries no hallmarks, which is not uncommon for unmarked silver of this period and origin. Condition is excellent. A handsome and characterful antique brooch with the decorative richness that defines late Victorian and Edwardian silver work at its best.
