A fine and well-preserved antique Mizpah brooch in silver, hallmarked Birmingham 1888, with the word "MIZPAH" rendered in bold raised block lettering across a rectangular panel, framed by engraved foliate decoration above and below and a neat border of ball terminals around the edge. Mizpah brooches were among the most popular sentimental jewels of the Victorian era, exchanged between loved ones as tokens of connection and remembrance — the word derives from a Hebrew blessing meaning "may the Lord watch between you and me when we are apart." This example is a particularly well-made specimen, the lettering crisp and the engraving confident.
The brooch carries full Birmingham hallmarks dated 1888 and is in excellent condition throughout. A highly collectible piece of Victorian sentimental jewellery with strong appeal to collectors and wearers alike.
