An exceptional Edwardian brooch, c.1905, designed in the distinctive Arts and Crafts style. Crafted in buttery 15ct yellow gold, the piece features an organic, openwork "whiplash" frame that centers a vibrant oval cabochon opal. The opal displays a captivating play-of-colour, with vivid flashes of neon green and electric blue.
The central stone is flanked by four petite rubies, set into stylized leaf motifs that grow out of the sinuous gold wirework. This brooch perfectly captures the transition from traditional Victorian jewellery to the more artistic, nature-inspired designs of the early 20th century. It remains in excellent antique condition, complete with a crisp '15ct' fineness stamp, and is presented in a period-style velvet-lined box.
