A superb example of Georgian sentimental jewellery: a flexible, densely-linked gold snake chain that coils fluidly around the neck, terminating in a serpent's head finely worked in rich cobalt blue enamel. The head is set with a crest of graduated seed pearls and tiny ruby cabochon eyes, its open mouth holding a small enamelled pendant drop — itself bordered in pearls, with a glazed compartment to the reverse for a keepsake or lock of hair, in the sentimental tradition of the period. Unmarked, as is typical of pieces from this era, but the construction, enamel work and pearl setting are entirely consistent with a Georgian dating. Presented in its original fitted case.
Details block:

- Pendant drop with glazed reverse compartment
- Presented in original fitted case
