A beautiful Victorian brooch modelled as a stylised flowerhead, the scrolling openwork petals and central cluster set throughout with old-cut diamonds totalling approximately 3.2ct. The diamonds are set in silver over a 15ct gold back — the classic construction of fine nineteenth-century diamond work, keeping the stones bright and white — while the pierced, galleried petals give the whole jewel a wonderful sense of light and movement, the diamonds sparkling from an open, airy mount rather than a solid one.

The flower has always been the most tender of Victorian motifs, and a diamond example of this quality would have been a significant jewel in its day. Substantial yet delicate, it makes a superb statement worn on a lapel, collar or at the throat, and is a lovely example of high Victorian goldsmithing.
