A fine and collectable pair of earrings by Andrew Grima, one of the most celebrated British goldsmiths of the twentieth century, hallmarked 750 and signed with the Grima maker's mark on the reverse of each earring. The design pairs a domed outer surface in textured florentine-finish 18ct yellow gold with an inner band of pavé-set round brilliant diamonds in white gold — a characteristically Grima dialogue between richly worked gold and brilliant white stone. The contrast between the warm, tactile gold and the sharp precision of the diamonds is handled with the confidence that defined Grima's work throughout his career.
The earrings are fitted with omega clip backs and are in excellent condition throughout. At 17.2 grams the pair have substantial presence on the ear. Grima pieces are increasingly sought after by collectors of post-war British studio jewellery, and signed examples in this condition represent a meaningful long-term hold as much as a piece to wear.
